Commentary Approach

The commentary approach to this attempt of a critical edition of the D&C is as follows.

  1. Minor textual variations / spelling mistakes are treated as non-critical. It is clear that the scribes of Revelation Book 1 had some issues with English spelling and punctuation, but where correcting this in later editions does not change the meaning of the text, no redactive intent is understood to have occured.
  2. All other textual variations are understood to have some redactive intent. Where the redactive intent is explicit from historical sources then that will be laid out in the commentary, otherwise potential reasons for the redaction may be presented but not as an authoritative understanding of the redactive intent.
  3. Not all significant historical versions are shown in the interlinear, though they are listed in the document registry and mentioned in the commentary.
